Get your mojo back

It’s always easy to make things happen when you’re motivated and feeling good but what happens when you lost your motivation and you feel you’re stuck in a rut? Remember what attracted you to the job in the first place. Remembering the ‘why’ should help in getting your mojo back.

Appreciate the little things

I have always hated the cliché, ‘appreciate the little things’. Appreciation and gratitude are the antidote to frustration and fear. Think about the things you like doing in your job and the things you are good at. Think of the great people you’ve met and have in your life.

Understand your triggers & self-talk

Everyone has an internal story they tell themselves … ‘I’m not good enough’, ‘I hate my job’, ‘I never get the opportunity’. These are self-limiting and negative. EVERYONE at one time or another has similar thoughts. Acknowledge that these are just messages that you’ve been subliminally feeding yourself to justify or make excuses. Be strong, resilient and stop listening to such crazy stories. Instead of making excuses make a plan to get what you want. The definition to crazy is to do the same thing over and over and expect a different outcome.

Be a little bit crazy

Each day do something that scares you. Get out of your comfort zone. Challenge yourself. Do it over and over and soon the scary thing won’t be scary. Take a public speaking course; cold call someone that you would like look up to and ask them for a coffee; ask your boss what you can do for them to assist. Be bold and repeat until the ‘scary’ thing becomes the norm.

Relax

Take some time to do some things that are good for your body and soul. Cook something with fresh ingredients, read a book, meet up with an old friend, get outside, take a long bath. Or better yet do something for someone who is under the pump. Doing something for someone else that makes their life a bit better naturally makes our life a bit better. Cook a meal for a single mum, offer to take someone’s kids for the day/weekend, volunteer or just buy a coffee for the person behind you.

More bad days than good

As my father would say ‘when there are more bad days than good it is time to make a change’. Do not jump the gun and quit your job thinking you can get another role quickly. It’s important to try and understand why you want to move on and what will truly make you happy before you make another mistake. 99.99% of the time people leave their roles because their current role doesn’t fit their career aspirations, the culture of the company/boss doesn’t fit and/or they just aren’t motivated.

Remember, life is too short to spend it at a job you hate.
