“Mike explained not just the technical aspects of the role but he could articulate the breadth of the opportunity and align it with my career aspirations.”

Debbie’s Crossroad
Debbie Reich became Executive General Manager for national land-based logistics company BagTrans in mid-2022 after a phone call from Career Crossroads International Director Michael Boyd. At the time, she had worked for Linfox Logistics for six years, where she had been responsible for retail contracts under management for Coles and Woolworths. That year, she was the winner of the Linfox CEO Award for Excellence. However, Debbie recognised that the organisation provided her with a limited professional career pathway.
The Mentoring Solution
“I got to point with Linfox where I was looking for my next role but there was no chance of that in the next two years,” recalls Debbie. “Opportunity knocked when Mike reached out to a former colleague of mine who recommended me for an executive role. Mike explained not just the technical aspects of the role but he could articulate the breadth of the opportunity and align it with my career aspirations. Mike is a very good coach. As I moved through the process, which happened very quickly, he coached me with an understanding of the organisation and its CEO, along with tips and tricks on how to present your best self. This is important because, when you approach a new company, you need to be situationally aware.”
The Path Forward
“Mike was quite pragmatic about the opportunities as well as the risks in my joining BagTrans. No matter how good my skills are, there’s always a risk in undertaking the journey a business needs to take. Also, for my consideration to accept the offer, he mapped out potential future roles on offer within the broader organisation and how to prepare myself with the skills and mindset required. I have recommended CCI to colleagues and I continue to use the company to attract additional talent for the journey of change my business is on. Mike doesn’t present as a recruiter. He presents as an industry expert. That’s the difference.”
